Accident Notification: Worker hit by tipper truck

On 22 February 2019 around 8:20am, a site supervisor was at the cross junction of an open access road within a construction worksite, when a tipper truck hit him as it wasturning. He was knocked down and sustained head injuries, and subsequently pronounced dead at the scene by attending paramedics.

 

The Ministry of Manpower has commenced investigations into the accident.

 

The industry is reminded to conduct a comprehensive Risk Assessment covering traffic movement at construction sites. A traffic management plan is necessary to safeguard both workers and drivers within the site. Warning signs should be installed at traffic junctions to remind drivers to slow down and look out for oncoming traffic and pedestrians. Where site conditions permit, provide a demarcated walkway to separate pedestrian access from vehicular access. Traffic control devices may be installed on-site or traffic controllers stationed to manage traffic movement. All workers must be briefed on vehicular traffic hazards, and advised to maintain a safe distance from vehicles and keep away from vehicle blind spots at all times.
