On 4 August 2016, ASPRI organised the sixth Members’ Exclusive Dialogue with the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) since 2008. The dialogue attracted more than 90 attendees coming together to understand the new manpower policy changes that has taken place and those that would take place in the next few years.
Ms. Lee Shiru from the Foreign Workforce Policy Department in MOM shared the three policy changes related to the Process Sector; allowing Work Permit Holders (WPHs) in the Construction, Marine and Process (CMP) sectors to take on driving as a secondary job function; allowing Process employers to hire experienced WPHs (with effect 1 June 2017); and better ways to recognize “higher skilled” R1 WPHs.
Ms. Caphine Lee, General Manager in ASPRI-IPI, also shared on the PCMMC Skills Pack under the Process Workforce Skills Qualification (WSQ) framework.
An interactive and informative Q&A session was headed by Mr. Charles Quek (President of ASPRI 11th Executive Council), Mrs. Penny Han (Divisional Director, Work Pass Division, Ministry of Manpower) and Mr. Christopher Koh (Director, Foreign Workforce Policy Department, Manpower Planning and Policy Division, Ministry of Manpower).
Kudos to everyone for the event’s success, especially to ASPRI’s close partner, MOM for the meaningful and fruitful session.
