Dear Valued ASPRI Members,
IMPORTANT: Additional Measures by MOM to contain spread of Wuhan virus
In the press release dated 28 January 2020, MOM updated that the 3 latest confirmed cases indicate that the trend of infection among the population of Chinese nationals from Hubei province in Singapore is accelerating. All of the confirmed cases in Singapore thus far are Chinese nationals from Hubei.
In an effort to contain the spread of the Wuhan virus, MOM is implementing the following set of measures on all foreign workers from Hubei, with immediate effect:
1. NEW WORK PASS APPLICATIONS FROM HUBEI
With immediate effect, MOM will reject all new work pass applications for foreign
workers from Hubei until further notice. As of today, MOM has rejected more than 30 new applications. Renewal applications for existing Work Pass workers from Hubei will not be affected.
2. RETURNING WORK PASS HOLDERS FROM HUBEI
Existing work pass holders from Hubei who are currently away or with recent Hubei travel history within the last 14 days should defer their return to Singapore. MOM expects employers to be responsible and ask these employees to defer their return until the situation stabilises.
Employees with valid work passes will still be allowed to enter Singapore. However, they will be quarantined at home or other suitable facilities upon returning. Employers should inform these employees that they will be quarantined if they choose to return to Singapore.
