Dear Valued ASPRI Members,

Process Safety Management (PSM) Seminar

One of the greatest threats to process plant safety is Human Error. Human error is any human action (or inaction) that deviates from its primary intention and expectation, in achieving the desired outcome. Human error includes lapses and intentional violations that may contribute to accidents.

The Singapore Chemical Industry Council’s (SCIC) Process and Engineering Committee will be organising a PSM Seminar, part of series, offers an in-depth look into selected PSM elements.

The 1st half of the seminar will bring the participants through ALARP (As Low As Reasonably Practicable) which is one of the fundamental principles of risk management. In the Case Study on ALARP demonstration, participants will have an understanding on how to strike a balance in managing risk as it is not cost effective if resources are invested to eliminate risk to the point where the costs exceed benefits.

The 2nd half of the seminar will provide participants with a hands-on session on Human Factors. The group activity will bring you through the Human Factors Task Analysis by determining the tasks which are safety critical, followed by understanding which human action (or inaction) might result in a failure and finally identifying the layers of protection for these safety critical tasks in order to reduce the likelihood or consequences of human failure.
