Protect Employees from the Effects of Haze

With the return of the haze in Singapore and the recent news1 of the PSI entering the unhealthy range, employers are reminded of their duty to protect their employees from the effects of the haze.
This will include the management of outdoor work to:
• Reduce, minimise and avoid prolonged or strenuous outdoor work; and
• Implement risk mitigating measures, such as use of mechanical aids, job
rotation, instituting indoor rest breaks, ensuring adequate hydration, etc, when
the 24-hour PSI reaches Unhealthy levels.
Employers should also update their employees regularly on measures taken and obtain feedback of any adverse health effects their employees may have sustained as a result of the haze.
For more information on how employers can minimise or mitigate the effects of the haze on workers, please refer to:
• MOM’s Guidelines for Employers on Protecting Employees from the Effect of Haze;
• Tripartite Advisory to Employers on Haze-related Workplace Measures; and
• MOM’s Haze-related Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
